  • Parents/caregivers of students who qualify to apply will receive communication from the gifted office by September 16th.  This communication will go out through Parent Square and will include all necessary information about the application process for the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School, as well as information about the virtual Open House session being planned for September 30th @ 5:30 PM.
  • Parents/guardians of qualified students will receive instructions for the virtual open house session.
  • Please contact Mrs. Sams or Mrs. Mizelle if you do not receive this communication or have questions about your child's status.
  • Students who meet qualifications to apply to the Governor's School will be added to a Schoology Group for the Governor's School application process.  If your child does not have access to this Schoology Group, please contact Mrs. Sams or Mrs. Mizelle.
  • Online applications will be available , through the Maggie Walker Applications 2024-25 Schoology Group (SchoolMint application) beginning Tuesday, October 1st, at 9:00 AM.  The application deadline is 11:59 PM on December 2nd.  No late applications will be accepted.  Parents will receive confirmation through SchoolMint after the application has been submitted.
  • Only eligible 8th grade students and their parents/guardians will have access to the online application.
  • Teacher recommendationsStudents will provide names and email addresses of chosen individuals to receive the recommendation forms within the application.  Reminders will be sent through SchoolMint to individuals selected to complete recommendations to the email addresses submitted by the student and will collect responses through December 9th.  
  • Students are responsible for asking two individuals to complete recommendation forms and submit their names and email addresses on their application
    • Form A = 7th or 8th grade English, Math, Science, Social Studies or World Language Teacher
    • Form B = Any adult (not a relative) who knows your potential for success and agrees to give you a reference
  • Each applicant is required to attend a regional evaluation session on January 25, 2025.  The student will complete timed evaluation activities, and a timed written essay based on the topic on the test day.
